If you are using Windows 10 1803 you are getting a message now that is telling you that you need to update your system.
I can’t speak for all industries, but if you are a Creative using Adobe CC you will not have any issues with their software. I have also done the update on laptops, desktops and my old edit rig I keep as test machine and I have not had any issues with hardware.
When your machine is ready you will see the following in your Notification Center on Windows 10.

I wanted to see what version I was running so I went to Windows Settings > System > About

I went ahead and did the update. Now if you are going to update, please make sure to give yourself an hour or more. This process takes a bunch of time, so I like doing these updates early in the morning or late at night.

After an hour or so it was all done. I logged in and check to see what version I was running.

I encourage everyone running anything older than Windows 10 to get on the Windows 10 train. Microsoft has done an incredible job with the OS and it continues to get better. (This from a guy that was a MacOS fan!)
Once on Windows 10, make sure you keep it up to date. Microsoft is working hard to remove bugs and keep you safe with security patches.
